Membership Requirements

  • Professional Requirements (Initial):
    • Minimum of twelve (12) hours of basic collaborative training (either law or inter-disciplinary) provided by trainers meeting the minimum standards for trainers set by the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP).
    • Minimum of thirty (30) hours of basic mediation training for all members.  Applicant not meeting this minimum can be admitted to membership provisionally, but a least twenty  (20) hours of this requirement must be met within six (6) months of entering membership – with the remaining ten (10) hours completed within twelve (12) months of entering membership; if not, membership will be terminated.
  • Annual Obligations:
    • Current membership in Virginia Collaborative Professionals (VaCP).
    • Current membership in the International Association of Collaborative Professionals (IACP).
    • Minimum of four (4) hours annually of education/training in subjects directly related or connected to a collaborative process or dispute resolution, including but not limited to training in communication skills, interest-based negotiation, and advanced mediation.
    • Participation in at least one CDST committee.
    • Maintenance of professional liability insurance.
    • Member’s license to practice in his or her profession must be in good standing. 
    • Attend not fewer than four (4) membership meetings each calendar year.
